Abseiling, although a relatively “old” adventure sport, it is still a favourite amongst adrenaline seekers. It is practiced in a controlled environment which makes it a very safe activity, yet stepping backwards over the edge and descending down the cliff will give you an adrenaline rush!

The abseil we do on Chicken Hill is 25m high. The first 10m is on a cliff face and for the remaining 15m you are abseiling down an overhang. The walk to the top of the abseil is approximately 15 minutes from our office..

No previous experience needed. Remember your sunscreen and hat. You need to wear closed shoes. Cost: R165pp (includes 2 abseils per person)

Kloofing Injisuthi

Extreme Rating:
Mild – Wild

We depart in convoy (own cars) early in the morning from Dragon Peaks Park. The drive to the kloof is approximately 50km and takes roughly an hour. (Most of the way is tar road except for the last 5km which is a gravel road.) Come and spend this stunning day out in the mountains with us. Runs year round, but winter is the better time in the kloof as we do not get so wet. A car guard comes with to watch the cars while we are in the kloof.

Hike up the side of the kloof (approximately 1 hour). Once at the top of the kloof the descending begins by abseiling and scrambling. We abseil down a cascade of waterfalls. The abseils are all done by passive rappelling, which means the guide lowers you down. This is a physical day. Enjoy a light lunch half way down the kloof. Bring along sunscreen, hat, a light raincoat, shoes that can get wet (tekkies are better than boots) and a dry set of clothing for the drive back. Cost: R450pp (R50 extra for a shuttle service max 4)  Duration: 6-7 hours

The Injisuthi valley is the hidden gem of the Drakensberg, as it is situated in the rural area of Loskop and therefore has not been developed in terms of tourism. The only accommodation in the area is the Injisuthi Parks Board. They have a stunning campsite and very comfortable self-catering chalets. To book your stay there please phone the head office in Pietermaritzburg 033 845 1000 or visit their website: www.kznwildlife.com
